Chamber Committees

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
This committee helps to determine legislative priorities and meets monthly with the Mayor and Council Chair to express interests and concerns affecting business owners. The Chamber also supports business issues at the county and state levels through organizations such as the Kaua`i Business Council, and the Affiliated Chambers & Business Organizations Council. Current issues being addressed include civil service reform (modernization), privatization (outsourcing), workers’ compensation, taxation, and health care premiums.

MEMBERSHIP
This committee’s main task is to generate membership. This is accomplished through quarterly coffee hours and any Chamber function. Membership is open to any person, company, corporation or civic organization interested in the welfare of Kaua`i.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
 This committee helps to plan the Chamber’s workshops, seminars, and business after hours and quarterly membership meetings. These events and activities provide great networking opportunities as well as educational opportunities. Special events include Small Business Administration Awards and the Aloha Spirit Award.

PUBLIC RELATIONS & PROMOTIONS
This committee is constantly finding innovative ways of promoting the Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce to keep our organization in the forefront of the business community. The highly successful "Operation Aloha" program, introduced by this committee, continues its fifth year. This program encourages visitors to nominate island residents who "gave them extra-special, super service, an act of kindness, or shared Kauai’s Aloha Spirit with them in some small way." Nomination forms are located throughout the island.

SMALL BUSINESS
This committee helps to represent the needs and values of small businesses (those with fewer than 10 employees). Their task is to inform all businesses, particularly small businesses, about legal requirements and various resources to help "promote, develop and improve commerce, quality growth and economic stability in the County of Kaua`i." In April of 2006, the committee launched a Small Business Exposition dedicated to providing businesses on the island a one-stop event to exhibit their products and services, provide up-to-date workshops on topics relevant to small businesses such as workers’ compensation, and luncheon with keynote speaker. The event concluded with the annual Small Business Administration Awards. In June, the committee sponsors the Chamber’s annual scholarship golf tournament which raises funds for students pursuing careers in business.

FINANCE
This committee provides the financial oversight and guidance to the organization working hand-in-hand with the committees and Board of Directors.

GOLF
This committee is an ad-hoc committee that helps with the annual scholarship golf tournament held the Sunday after Mother's Day in May. Proceeds from the tournament is used to provide scholarships to three outstanding high school students who plan to pursue a business major in college as well as to an exemplary Kauai Community College business education graduate.
